April 16, 2008

Where We've Been So Far:

2006 - Seattle to California via Alaska in the summer. Then California to Mexico with the Baja Haha . We traveled through Mexico down to Zihuatanejo, covering an astounding 6,000 miles in our first year of cruising.

2007 - Zihuatanejo back up to La Paz via the Gold Coast.

Summer 2007 - Left the boat at Marina Cost Baja in La Paz while we went home and worked. House sat for Steve & Elsie and accidentally got really good jobs, so worked stretched into the end of January for Rob (end of December for me).

Winter 2007-2008 - Hauled the boat in La Paz then scooted south. Stopped on the Gold Coast for a couple of weeks, then chugged pretty quick down through Zihua and across the Tehuantepec to El Salvador. Going to travel inland to Guatemala for some immersion Spanish, then off to Costa Rica.

Where We're Going Next:

Spring & Summer 2008 - Cruising Central America. Ecuador has fixed their issues for cruisers, so we're going to head there to avoid the nightly lightening storms in Central America during the summer. We'll do some inland travel and take our niece Brittney to Peru with us.

Winter 2008-2009 - We'll head back north to see Costa Rica and Panama.

April (fall in the Southern hemisphere) 2009 - Time to head for the South Pacific! We'll sail to the Marquesas via the Galapagos Islands. Then likely through the Tuamotos and French Polynesia, into the Cook Islands, up to Niue, and over to Tonga. Then off to New Zealand for a while.

That's where the plans start getting pretty fuzzy. We'll come back to the South Pacific and hopefully spend a season in Australia before visiting Southeast Asia. Winter in Thailand, then up the Red Sea to the Med. After some time there, it's out to the Caribbean, then through the Panama Canal for the finish.

Then who knows? Along the way we have to work when we can, so those opportunities will always cause the plan to change.

Maybe then we'll start all over again....
